'It's always an inside job', Laxman replied. 'First, the dacoits gave the police ten percent,
then the police started demanding more, twenty, thirty, forty. Finally it was phipty-phipty. Then the police said, "Why
let them do it when we can do it ourselves?" So now the off-duty policemen
are the dacoits.'
