Magnolia - Movie Review

Had every spoken “fuck” been omitted from it, the movie would have finished 30 minutes earlier. And there would still have enough curse words left in the movie to leave the impression intact.

This is the movie of Drug Addicts, child molester, Spouse cheaters, misogynist, humiliated kids etc. Some of them are dying from cancer, almost all of them are feeling guilty about their past.

Probably this and the reason that some Judeo-Christian biblical references were made throughout the movie (out of ignorance, I didn’t understand or appreciate any of it); I guess the reviewers on IMDB found the movie so philosophically intriguing. A good number of reviewers actually find this movie relating to real life around them.

I don’t come across people (that I know of) who are child molester or spouse cheaters and I am yet to see a person dying from cancer and making confessions about dark past. So I couldn’t relate to it and from my perspective it’s a pointless movie with brilliant acting performances.

Movie is depicted mostly in realistic fashion, except that there is a dense frog rain, sometimes characters become singers (All in same rhyme) and there was a reference made (twice) to 3 unrelated short stories where chance had unrealistic dominance. May be this was done to artificially stir the viewer’s brain into pointless thoughts.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop - Movie Review

Refreshingly entertaining movie. Its Neither perfectly realistic nor it will make you laugh till you get tears in your eyes but its still an above average 96 minutes comedy which you most likely won't regret. Watching it and laughing together with few dozen others in the cinema will help further.

Marley & Me - Movie Review

Marley is a dog. And your level of interest in this movie would be proportionate to your level of interest in pet dogs. The comedy tag is misleading. It’s a light movie, in fact too light to be called an interesting movie.

Blonde Ambition - Movie Review

Quite a few movies (e.g. Lion king, Shrek , Madagascar etc) made for teens/kids does very good for adults too. This is a movie which is made for adults and is pretty bad for teens as well.

Any mind grown over the age of 13, would be disappointed. The story is comical and comedy is tragic. The writer/director are courageous people. This movie can serve as a good example given by anti-anything-west people.

The Terminal - Movie Review

Disappointing by the standards of Spielberg & Tom hanks. The comedy tag to movie genre is misleading. And Emotional dramas are comparable to Indian movies. The movie is barely interesting enough not to be categorized in 'bad' movies. Tom hanks acting is good as ever

Dasvidaniya - Movie Review

A good idea not executed that well. While the central story is good. The script & direction are weak. The tragic side of the movie (where viewer feel more tragic to himself watching the movie) dominates over motivational side which in turn dominates comic side. A little below average non-traditional movie.

Just like Heaven - Movie Review

Typical romantic movie. You'll please your wife if you watch it with her. Your brain will hurt if you want to see 'logically correct' movies but emotional side of the movie is definitely good one. The pace of the movie is fast and all in all its not a bad 90 minutes experience.

A Mighty Heart - Movie Review

In first 5 minutes, Daniel pearl gets kidnapped. In last 5 minutes, he gets killed. The rest of the movie is about searching for him (and his kidnappers). From story line perspective, its boring. There aren't any sensational scenes in the movie nor the breakthroughs in investigations create dramatic effect but the very same factor makes the movie realistic and more focused on "How afflictive were the times for the relevant people" instead of "What an staggering experience that was"
Events and characters narrated are very real. Though the movie is not offensive to any particular group, it doesn’t seem too cautious on political correctness either.
A very good watch for people interested in Pakistan and War on terrorism though the movie is strictly confined to the topic and doesn’t touch many relevant pre and post event issues.

Muhammed The Last Prophet - Movie Review

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430377/

Nice effort to show initial days of Islam. Can be an excellent source for young kids so that they can visualize the early Islamic history. Though the simplified and preachy nature of the movie makes it insignificant as a historical source for adult minds.
The visual animation is just ok but the voice over are extremely good. The language is clear & concise and events are (though simplified,) not exaggerated and controversial topics have been avoided.
One interesting fact is that face of Prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr , Umer, Ali etc have not been shown out of respect but at the same time faces of other prominent companions like Bilal al Harith and Salman al Farsi have been shown . If showing faces is disrespect then it should be disrespect to these companions as well.

City of God - Cidade de Deus - Movie Review

A very crude depiction of life realities for humans living below poverty line (and such people are billions in number). The movie is based on crime theme and almost all the time revolves around killings, drugs, verbal abuse, rape and other forms of violence.
The narration of the story and the sequencing of scenes (going back more and forth less) has been handled excellently well. Pace of story is fast enough to keep you from getting bored. Too many shocking scenes gives the feeling as if too many words have been made bold in a sentence. Nothing is shown out of context though and every thing relates well to the central story.
Must watch for crime movie lovers and a very good watch for general audience as long as on screen violence is not being considered a disturbing factor by the viewer.

Movie Review - Children of Heaven - بچہ ہای آسمان

A simple story well told. There isn't much entertainment value in the movie. Acting levels aren't shockingly amazing either. And you may not enjoy it at all if you are watching it with a group of friends seeking some good time pass.

Yet, the charismatic appeal of this movie is in its realistic and simple story. The characters looks so real and its easy to fall in love with them. Its instinctive to feel the feelings of the kids. The movie gives a very good perspective to a thought about source and value of happiness. Though the two movies have totally different stories and portrayed in different backgrounds, the essence of the movie reminds me of "The pursuit of happiness". I would like to watch this movie once every few years.

Movie Review - Confessions of a Shopaholic

Excessive spending & misusing credit cards is largely a gender independent phenomena. The movie sadly has been made only from the female perspective of it. Or in simpler words, "Its a girlie movie." You may like it if you are a teen girl (or gay) and your maturity level is near average. For others, there is aggregate 5 minutes of good comedy. Other 100 minutes are predominantly waste of time
Additional bonus for gays is that Guy is way cuter then the girl in this movie.

Movie Review - 50 First dates

Amongst the best romance based movies I have ever seen. There is nothing much to criticize . Some comedy attempts seem to be out of place & order. But everything else fits perfectly well. The storyline is pretty genuine. Running time is just perfect (96 mins). Highly recommended to any one except those who don't believe in love

Movie Review - Scent of a Woman

You would have watched these characters (Rich spoiled students, poor Mr. nice student, mattoid ex-colonel, selfish relatives) in dozen different movies. The story is pretty much predictable too. Yet, this movie has sufficiently good points to make it a good watch. Namely first, the fine acting of Al Pacino and second, an Increasingly gripping drama, specially the last 30 minutes. This film gradually takes on you. The story have been narrated in very charming fashion. A very good watch for drama lovers.

Movie Review - Anwar

The central character of the movie hardly gets 30% of the screen time, and even lesser share of the written script. There are too many sub plots and couple of them really spoils the mood of the movie. Probably director wanted to depict (lots of) dilemmas of Indian society then portraying a smoothly flowing story.

The characters shown in the movie are realistic. The scenes of movie seems disconnected, yet in their individualistic sense, most scenes are well directed and acted. Watch the movie if you like to see non-conclusive questions raising movie with out bothering about story flow. It’s a boring affair otherwise.

Movie Review - The Ten Commandments

Its an extremely good rendition of Early historic Era. Acting, direction, movie effects etc looks little immature by today's standards. There have been quite a few liberties taken by writer/director from actual history yet it is a very recommended movie for any one who love watching visual representation of epic history.

Movie Review - Ararat

The primary theme of film inside a film is very interesting and have been executed well to a good extent. However too many sub plots have spoiled the over all flavor of the movie. A good watch for history buffs. A below average fair for general audience.

Movie Review - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Very interesting plot but the execution is just ok. Its close to 3 hrs movie and there is a lot of drama in it but it doesn’t grasp the viewer as much as "Braveheart" or "Schindler's List" do

None the less, its not a bad one time watch
